Food Labelling Requirements
Content delivered in ONE day face to face training.
This training will be delivered by an experienced Food Safety Auditor, who is familiar with all the labelling requirements in Australian legislation and industry food safety and quality standards. The seminar format will deliver information and resources aimed to assist participants to source information in regards to food labelling and develop the ability to review actual labels against requirements.
Students will complete short assessment tasks in class and a work based report including short questions and answers, case study label review in class and a workplace review of one label.
The successful completion of the program, and all assessment tasks, will result in each participant being issued a Statement of Attainment for FBPFST4009 Label foods according to legislative requirements. Alternatively, students can opt for a Certificate of Participation for attending the program. Participants can bring their current labels to the course for review during the day. This program may contribute to Certificate IV FBP40418 Food Science and Technology.
Course Outline
This one day course is for HACCP team leaders, or managers, who are responsible for ensuring all products meet Australian and New Zealand food labelling legislation.

- Comply with food labelling legislation
- Identify food labelling requirements from the Food Standards Code, chapters 1-4
- Comply with customer food safety and quality assurance labelling standards
- Identify food labelling requirements, as it applies to the ACCC, Fair Trading, Environment and Trades, Weights and Measures regulations.
- Document information from food processing operation required on the product label
- Review food labels and identify examples of non compliant labelling.
- Produce a label for a specified product
- Includes update to FSC 1.2.3. and schedule 9 Plain English Allergen Labelling

Program Content
Food Labelling Requirements is an accredited course for the unit FBPFST4009 Label Foods according to legislative requirements.
This program covers:-
- Mandatory Statements; warning statements and declarations, including allergen and additive statements, including PEAL changes 2020.
- Product traceability requirements, including use by dates and batch coding
- Directions for use and storage
- Ingredient lists and declaration of characterising ingredients; How to declare GMO, irradiated ingredients; and the presence of alcohols.
- Country of Origin-
- Nutrition Information Panels and calculator
- Legibility and format for labels
- The different requirements for unlabelled products, food for catering and intercompany transfers
- Specific labelling for product category requirements
- Health Star Rating System
- Systems for label production
- The pitfalls with labels on imported and exported goods
- Labelling requirements of: ACCC; Weights & Measures; Fair Trading, etc.
- Industry food safety and quality standard requirements for major customer schemes- WSEP, SQF, Coles
